"What's the Use of Feeling (Blue)?" is a song featured in "That Will Be All". It is sung by Yellow Diamond (and supported by Yellow and Blue Pearl) to cheer up Blue Diamond and convince her to stop constantly grieving over Pink Diamond.
The song is available to stream on Spotify.
Lyrics
[Yellow and Blue Pearl] Aah haa haa, aah haa haa
Aah ha aah ha, aah haa haa
Aah haa haa, aah haa haa
Aah haa haa haa haa haa haa haa haaaaa
[Yellow Diamond] Why would you want to be here?
What do you ever see here
That doesn't make you feel worse than you do?
And tell me, what's the use of feeling, Blue?
Why would you want to employ her
subjects that destroyed her?
Why keep up her silly zoo?
Oh, tell me what's the use of feeling, Blue?
An army has a use, they can go and fight a war
A Sapphire has a use, she can tell you what it's for
An Agate terrifies, a Lapis terraforms
Where's their Diamond when they need her, Blue?
You've got to be a leader, Blue!
Yes, of course, we still love her
And we're always thinking of her
But now there's nothing we can do
So tell me
What's the use of feeling?
What's the use of feeling?
What's the use of feeling, Blue?
Ohh
How can you stand to be here with it all
[Yellow and Blue Pearl] Here with it all
Drowning in all this regret
Wouldn't you rather forget her?
Ohh
Won't it be grand to get rid of it all?
[Yellow and Blue Pearl] Rid of it all
Let's make a plan of attack
Start looking forward and stop looking back
Ohh
Yes, of course, we still love her
And we're always thinking of her
Don't you know I miss her too?
But tell me
What's the use of feeling?
What's the use of feeling?
What's the use of feeling?
Hmm hmm hmm, hmm hmm hmm
Hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmmmmm

A Word from the Composers

When asked "What is your thinking behind the song 'What's The Use Of Feeling (Blue)?'"
So the song I was the most excited, that we get to see the Diamonds when they don't know they're being seen, when they think that they're alone. And Blue and Yellow are equals and opposites and they're both still reeling from this loss and I wanted to show the ways that they're dealing with it. Blue is determined to hold on to everything and be affected by everything. And Yellow doesn't want to be affected by anything --- wants to let everything go. I'm interested in exploring how everyone-how everyone's been affected. [1]
The oldest Demo for "What's the Use of Feeling (Blue)?"
I was so over the moon and so intimidated to write a song for the legendary Patti LuPone, words cannot describe! From here Aivi & Surasshu brought such an incredible otherworldly quality to this song… they helped me compose it at it's earliest stages. It's so odd to me now to hear this prototype version with ukulele!
Please you must listen to the final here as well!!!
Thank you so much for watching! [2]
Trivia
- This is the first song in the series sung solely by Homeworld Gems.
- This song was first hinted at by Deedee Magno-Hall, saying that she would be singing back-up vocals to Patti LuPone's character, Yellow Diamond.
- Motifs from "Yellow Diamond" and "Blue Diamond" can be heard in the instrumental.
- Yellow Diamond's lyrics reveal that Lapis Lazuli Gems are made to terraform colony worlds, and that Agates like Holly Blue Agate are meant to be terrifying overseers.
- In the Soundcloud release by Aivi & Surasshu, parts of the instrumental, such as the violin, are more prominent than in the episode.
- The official YouTube upload on the Cartoon Network channel is slightly mistitled "What's The Use in Feeling Blue".
